On Saturday, Oct. 15, at 12:45 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the 1300 block of Palisades Park because they had received a report of a man who was exposing himself. When the officers arrived at the scene they saw a man who matched the description of the alleged exposer, lying down on a blanket, with numerous personal items spread around him. The officers asked this man if they could search him, and he said that they could. The officers discovered that he was in possession of a collapsible baton. The suspect told the officers that he had purchased the baton for his own protection. The officers could not uncover any evidence of this man exposing himself, so this 44-year-old homeless man was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon (the collapsible baton). Bail was set at $20,000.

Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner.
