For the third straight year, Keller Williams realtors Scott Price and Janice Hou orchestrated a Thanksgiving food drive in the Sunset Park area of Santa Monica.
Just like the two previous years, bags were dropped off at residents’ doorsteps the first week of November and food was picked up at the end of the week.
Except this time, Sunset Park residents really showed their true colors, donating more than 2,200 pounds of food.
That is about 1,000 pounds more than the past two drives.
About 2,000 brown bags generously donated by Yummy.com were delivered to Sunset Park residents throughout the first week of November.
On Friday Nov. 11, Scott Price, Janice Hou, and three volunteers drove two cars up and down the streets, collecting the bags that neighbors left on their doorstep that morning.
When each car filled up with bags, a trip was made to the Westside Food Bank at 1710 22nd St. to unload.
Sunset Park showed their pride and big hearts with six carloads of food.
One volunteer was a student at Lincoln Middle School, Alan Mendoza, and the others were students exchanging their time for classes with TC Tai Chi Society.
They all felt the experience was incredibly rewarding and have already offered to volunteer next year.
Look out Sunset Park – Scott and Janice will be out again in 2012.
