The Corsair — Santa Monica College’s student newspaper — won 24 awards at the 2011 Southern California Convention of the Journalism Association of Community Colleges held recently at the California State University-Fullerton campus.
The annual event brings together journalism students from Southern California community colleges for a two-day convention that features on-the-spot writing and photography contests and professional workshops.
The results of mail-in contests recognizing top work from last year are also announced at the convention.
The college’s emerging multimedia journalism program earned its second consecutive first place award in the Web/Broadcast News category with an award given to Michael Miller.
Other students earning first place awards include Nathalyd Meza for a bring-in ad, Krista Bonelli for feature photo and George Mikhail for photo story. Saul Rubin is the Corsair faculty advisor.
