A 29-year-old man has been arrested and booked by Santa Monica police for kidnapping, vehicle theft, and parole violation.
At 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a radio call regarding a suspicious suspect in the 800 block of Ocean Park Boulevard, who was observed to be knocking on doors to various residences.
As officers were checking the immediate area, they observed an older model Toyota Previa Minivan that matched the description of the suspect vehicle involved in the attempted kidnapping on Dec. 4, 2011.
SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis said officers determined the vehicle was stolen and a traffic stop was conducted in the 800 block of Maple Street.
“The driver was detained and during the subsequent investigation, he was identified as the suspect in the attempted kidnapping,” Lewis said.
The suspect, Jefferdick Joseph Vega, a 29-year-old resident of Los Angeles, was placed under arrest and transported to the Santa Monica jail.
He was booked for kidnapping, vehicle theft and a parole violation.He is not eligible for bail.
