CRE Outreach’s Theatre by the Blind puts its unique spin on Steven Dietz’s “Private Eyes,” a drama with comedy about jealousy and revenge with performances starting this Saturday, March 10, at the Promenade Playhouse in Santa Monica.
The play will be performed by an all blind cast, directed by Greg Shane, and will run through April 8.
“Private Eyes” revolves around a pair of married actors whose relationship is tested when the wife becomes involved in an affair with their play’s director. As a play within a play, it soon becomes apparent that the story’s plot overlaps with the plot of the play the characters are performing.
Is the affair real, or perhaps a part of the play being rehearsed, or maybe — something imagined by one of the characters? The audience steps into the role of detective in a play where art imitates life. Or does it?
The cast features Arnette Coates, Cookie, Bert Grose, Melanie Hernandez, Leela Kazerouni, Maria Perez, Ernest Pipoly, Tori Taite, and Sheela Walker.
The opening night gala is this Saturday, March 10, at 8 p.m. with tickets $35 each.
Regular tickets for the rest of the run of the play are $20 for performances Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
A preview will be held this Friday, March 9, with tickets just $10.
