First United Methodist Church Preschool held its Children’s Dance Performance on June 28, which was a culmination of the year long program of teacher education in preschool curriculum through movement.
Led by Movement Specialist Peggy Fisher, 108 preschool students and 17 teachers performed from 11 a.m. to noon in its Simkins Hall.
The Dance Performance showcased 14 well-known pieces of art created by 10 famous artists with music by composers of the same era, country and genre to demonstrate confluence of art.
A children’s art show in the foyer displayed the children’s interpretation of each piece of art as well.
Fisher and FUMC were awarded a matching fund grant from Lego Children’s Fund to create an inaugural year-long curriculum in movement arts as integrated into curriculum.
Founded in 1948, FUMC Preschool is open to everyone regardless of race or religion and provides no religious curriculum.
