On Thursday, Feb. 21, at 12:19 pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the rear alley of the 3200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard after hearing about a fight that was occurring there.
When the officers arrived they spoke with the two people involved and concluded that the victim had been walking along the alley and stopping to pick up recyclable items whenever he came across such objects of environmental disutility.
The suspect had apparently told the victim that the items that were in the shopping cart that the victim had been utilizing as a mobile receptacle were not the property of the victim, but instead belonged to the suspect.
The suspect then pulled out a piece of broken glass and threatened to cut the victim’s throat out with it.
The victim decided that it would be wise to leave at that point, so he did, and waited until the police arrived.
The officers, as a result of their investigation, and based upon the statement of an independent witness arrested the suspect, aged 51, and a resident of Carillo, California and he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, criminal threats, and a pair of warrants.
Bail was set at $60,000.
