An elderly driver who lost control of his SUV at about 1:45 pm Friday afternoon was rushed to a Santa Monica trauma center along with a woman he struck on Arizona Avenue near 2nd Street.
Witness Angel Delarosa told KCAL9 news that said he saw the vehicle hit one of the many pedestrians in its path.
“We were walking toward the intersection and this car hit (another) vehicle and veered off to the sidewalk,” Delarosa told the news station. “(He hit the pedestrian and she) landed on the hood and then he went down the sidewalk and hit that tree and she flew off.”
Delarosa said the victim was walking with friends, who narrowly escaped being hit.
The condition of the woman is not known, but she was conscious when paramedics arrived, according to SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis.
The driver is cooperating with investigators, Lewis said.
