On Friday, Feb. 22, at 4:30 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the Apple Store, located at 1415 Third Street Promenade after they had received a report that a loss prevention agent was following a suspect out of the store.
The officers located the suspect in the 100 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, and detained the suspect after the loss prevention agent had positively identified him.
The officers learned that this man had attempted to buy two iPads, and an iPhone 5.
The man had tried to complete the transaction by using a fraudulent driver’s license and bankcard, but the sales associate had spotted these fraudulent items and informed the suspect as such.
The man responded to this by leaving the store with loss prevention officers in pursuit.
The suspect then threw his wallet away, and the loss prevention officers recovered that item as evidence.
The officers looked inside the wallet and discovered several fraudulent credit cards.
The officers arrested this 40-year-old Van Nuys resident and he was charged with burglary and possession of fraudulent bankcards and drivers’ license, as well as a probation violation.
Bail was set at $20,000.
