Saint John’s Health Center Foundation hosted an intimate fundraiser dinner featuring an exclusive performance by Johnny Mathis Feb. 23 that raised $100,000 for Saint John’s Gastrointestinal Department.
These funds will go to ensure Saint John’s physicians and G.I. Lab care team can access the latest technology through state-of-the-art equipment.
A grateful patient, Mathis wanted to support Saint John’s Health Center and offered his time and superb talent to help raise funds for an area of greatest need.
Indelibly linked to the romantic side of jazz and pop music standards, Johnny Mathis’ distinctive voice on hits such as Chances Are, Misty, Wonderful! Wonderful! and It’s Not For Me To Say, are imprinted on the musical memory of a generation.
Hosted by Saint John’s Health Center Trustee family Peter and Merle Mullin, the event was held at the spectacular Mullin Automotive Private Collection, located in West Los Angeles the interior of which is reminiscent of the Grand Palais and features twenty of the Mullin’s classic French touring automobiles on display.
Guests mingled among the pre-World War I, classic French touring automobiles during the cocktail hour, were treated to a French Bistro-style gourmet dinner catered by The Kitchen for Exploring Foods and then sat back and enjoyed a nearly hour-long performance by Mr. Mathis, who was merely feet away on stage.
Mathis was backed by a band of superb musicians including Scott Lavendar on piano, Gil Reigers on guitar, Rick Shaw on bass, Joe Lizama on drums and Audio Operator Lee Rickmers.
