Bail was set at $1000 for a 60-year-old Santa Monica man who stole grey pants and a pair of sunglasses from a retail store on Wednesday, June 5.
At 10:50 am officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were summoned via radio to attend to a theft incident at a major department store located in the 300 block of Colorado Avenue.
Upon arrival the officers spoke with the loss prevention agent who told them that the suspect had entered the store carrying a black backpack that appeared to be empty.
This man had then picked up and put on a pair of grey pants while he was standing on the sales floor at the store.
The man then selected a pair of “Dockers” sunglasses and had concealed these in the left pocket of the jacket that he was wearing.
The man then proceeded to walk by a number of open and staffed cash registers and left the store without making any attempt to pay for any of the aforementioned items.
The loss prevention agents had stopped the man outside the store and after identifying themselves to the man had escorted him back into the store.
The loss prevention agents retrieved the items and called the police.
This Santa Monica resident was arrested according to a citizen’s arrest protocol and was charged with theft.
