A 36-year-old homeless woman was arrested Thursday, May 30 for pushing and punching a pregnant woman near the Ocean Park Community Center.
At 1:30 pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on routine patrol in the 500 block of Olympic Boulevard when they chanced upon several men and women involved in a physical altercation.
The officers exited their vehicle and were directed to a female victim.
This woman told the officers she was three months pregnant and added that she had just been assaulted by another female who had pushed and struck her in her pregnant stomach.
The officers found the suspect, who by then had been detained by the staff at the OPCC (Ocean Park Community Center).
The suspect was very agitated and refused to cooperate with the officers.
The officers decided to view the closed circuit television footage availed to them by the staff at the OPCC and concluded that the suspect had indeed approached the victim, pushed her against a wall and punched her.
Other witnesses corroborated this version of events.
A citizen’s arrest was applied and this homeless woman was charged with battery.
Bail was set at $20,000.
