“True Blood” Star Stephen Moyer Joins CLARE Foundation Board Of Directors:

The CLARE Foundation, a nonprofit organization providing effective and compassionate treatment, recovery, and prevention services for alcoholism and substance abuse, has welcomed “True Blood” star Stephen Moyer to its board of directors.

In addition to being honored for his contributions to the field of recovery at CLARE’s annual Tribute Dinner in 2010, Moyer has volunteered in CLARE’s Drug Court program for over two years.

CLARE Foundation’s board of directors is responsible for providing organizational and fiduciary oversight and ensuring that CLARE continues to successfully serve its mission.

Moyer joins CLARE’s 20 current board members, who include leaders from the financial, civic, entertainment, and philanthropic realms.

Moyer’s passion for acting began in local theatre in Brentwood & Chelmsford, Essex, England where he also made a name for himself with his own theatre company “The Reject Society.”

He then trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and began his professional acting career on stage, including two years with the Royal Shakespeare Company (“Romeo & Juliet,” “The Thebans,” “Columbus”), touring in “Romeo & Juliet” with the Oxford Stage in the title role of Romeo, and in the world premiere of Pete Townshend’s rock opera “The Iron Man” at The Young Vic.

He made his screen debut starring in the eponymous role in “Prince Valiant” (1997) with Katherine Heigl, followed by “Quills” (2000) with Geoffrey Rush, Kate Winslet, Joaquin Phoenix and Michael Caine, as well as leading roles in subsequent movies, including “Entrusted” (2003) (TV) and “Restraint” (2008).

U.S. television credits include leading roles in “Princess of Thieves” (2001) (TV) with Keira Knightley, NBC’s mini-series “Uprising” (2001) (TV) with David Schwimmer, Hank Azaria and Donald Sutherland, USA Network’s Golden Globe- and Emmy-nominated “The Starter Wife” (2007) starring Debra Messing, and, most recently co-starring with Anna Paquin in Alan Ball’s Golden Globe-nominated show for HBO “True Blood” (2008) as the 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton.

Moyer divides his time between homes in London and L.A., where production of the new season of “True Blood” (2008) continues.

“The dedication that Stephen has shown to CLARE has been awe-inspiring,” said CLARE Executive Director Nicholas Vrataric.

“We appreciate his passion for CLARE’s mission, and we look forward to working with him and the entire CLARE board to continue our work of providing effective, cost-efficient treatment and prevention services to those in need of recovery.”
