Santa Monica police arrested a 35-year-old Santa Monica woman on Tuesday, Sept. 10 after punching her husband in the neck.
At 8 pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a radio call inviting them to attend to some trouble of an unspecified nature in the 800 block of 29th Street.
When the officers arrived, they were flagged down by a man who then told them his wife had assaulted him. The officers separated the couple and questioned them individually, beginning with the wife.
The wife told them she had departed from the residence two days prior with the intent of leaving her husband.
She continued to tell the officers she had returned on this day to collect some personal items, and as she attempted to enter the residence a pushing and shoving competition ensued between herself and her husband.
She then claimed that during this engagement her husband had grabbed her neck and applied pressure for three to four seconds before he successfully pushed her out of the door.
They both left the residence at that point.
When the officers spoke with the husband he told them a different version of events.
He told officers that he had been returning to his residence in his car when his wife approached the drivers’ side window after he had pulled up.
He said the wife then punched him in the neck. A friend of the husband’s who had been sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle at the time corroborated this version of events.
The officers arrested this Santa Monica woman, and she was charged with assault. Bail was set at $20,000.
