JoAnn Deak To Speak At Westside Neighborhood School Nov. 7:

Westside Neighborhood School will host internationally recognized author of educational books JoAnn Deak Ph.D. on Nov. 7.

The event is open to the public free of charge with an RSVP.

As the follow up to the acclaimed children’s book “Your Fantastic Elastic Brain,” Dr. Deak’s latest work “The Owner’s Manual for Driving Your Adolescent Brain” focuses on the growth of the brain in its second decade.

Get insight on how to shape the brain and build its strengths during the all-important teenage years, a crucial time of growth and decision-making.

This highly engaging book will help you and your child learn the importance of nourishing, enriching and protecting the adolescent brain while providing tips and tricks on how to do so.

With more than 30 years experience as an educator and psychologist Dr. Deak has helped children and teens develop into confident and competent adults.

Dr. Deak delivers invaluable information based on the latest discoveries in brain research for teachers and parents on education and child rearing.

Her entertaining style of delivery belies the power and importance of her message: “Every interaction a person has during the course of a day influences, positively or negatively, the formation of that person.”

Dr. Deak’s presentation provides invaluable information for our effective work with our children as they continue their journey from childhood into adulthood.

Dr. Deak has written several books including, “How Girls Thrive,” “The Fantastic Elastic Brain,” and “Girls will be Girls: Raising Confident and Courageous Daughters.”

She has been a teacher, administrator, school psychologist and researcher and had a private practice in Ohio.

Dr. Deak participated in a six-year landmark study of women’s psychology and girl’s development with Harvard and a team of researchers led by Carol Gilligan in the 1980s and has been a consultant for parents, schools, and organizations nationwide since 1999.

Dr. Deak has the ability to demystify complex issues of child development, learning, identity formation and brain research.
