A 33-year-old man from Sacramento was arrested on Thursday, Oct. 31 after attacking a motorcyclist, breaking the victim’s helmet’s face-shield.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were requested to attend an incident in the area of Pico Boulevard and Lincoln Boulevard on this day at 7:09 pm that involved a man who was throwing trash and trash can lids into the street.
While they were rushing to that incident they received an instruction to divert to the area of Grant Street and Lincoln Boulevard because a person had been reported as hitting another person with a motorcycle helmet.
When the officers arrived they saw that a large group of people had encircled the subject in order to attempt to corral him.
Witnesses then pointed out the suspect and as they did the suspect approached the officers with fixated, staring eyes, clenched fists, and an aggressive stance.
The officers noted that this man resembled the man who had been described as throwing trash into the street in the initial report.
The officer told this man to “get back,” but he didn’t, so the officer took him down to the ground, and placed him into handcuffs.
Another witness approached the officer and told him that this suspect had earlier dumped a load of trash on top of his motorcycle that was parked nearby.
An argument ensued and the suspect charged at the motorcycle owner, who held up his helmet for protection.
The suspect then punched the helmet breaking the face-shield.
The motorcycle owner sustained injuries to two of his fingers during this altercation.
The officers arrested this 33-year-old man from Sacramento and he was charged with assault, battery, vandalism, and public intoxication.
