Homeless Man Arrested At Santa Monica T.J. Maxx Store After Stealing Winter Clothes:

A 28-year-old homeless man was arrested on Saturday, Nov. 23 after visiting a Santa Monica T.J. Maxx store, trying on pants, a jacket, pair of gloves, and beanie, and then leaving the store without paying.

Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to T.J. Maxx at 1251 Fourth Street at 7:30 pm on this day in order to investigate a theft report.

The officers had been given a description of the suspect and apprehended a man fitting the description in the area.

The officers then spoke with the loss prevention agent from the store and he said that this man had entered the store and put a pair of dress pants over the top of his own pants, put on a jacket, pair of gloves, and a beanie hat (valued at $69.96).

The man then left the store, with the watchful loss prevention agent in hot pursuit.

The loss prevention agent then called the police and alerted them to the situation.

The officers arrested this homeless man and he was charged with theft. Bail was set at $1,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of The Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
