Construction fencing will return today around the Ken Genser Square water feature for waterproofing and other work to prevent future problems.
During the construction of the water feature in the front yard of City Hall, the City of Santa Monica and W.E. O’Neil Construction determined that there were several aspects of construction that should be addressed in order to ensure the long-term success of the project.
These are:
— Applying a coating to the lower basins that will prevent the chalky mineral accumulation on the walls at the base of the trays.
— Waterproofing around each of the 52 bubblers which will provide additional certainty that there will be no unwanted internal water migration in the future.
— Adding seams in the perimeter curb to control cracking.
At no added cost to the City of Santa Monica, W.E.O’Neil Construction will undertake these improvements beginning today, Dec. 2.
The contractor has been given through Jan. 27 to finish these components.
