During an eight-hour DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint in Santa Monica on Friday night, there was one alcohol related DUI arrest, two drug related DUI arrests, and 10 citations issued for traffic related offenses.
The Santa Monica Police Department held the checkpoint from 7 pm to 3 am in the 2800 block of westbound Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica.
SMPD Traffic Enforcement Unit Sgt. Philbo Rubish said the operation involved approximately 23 sworn and non-sworn personnel from the Special Enforcement Division and Operations Division.
“A large impact in impaired driving was made obvious by the number of rideshare and taxi vehicles that came through with occupants pointing out that they wouldn’t take the risk given our presence and location,” Rubish said.
Rubish said 1,396 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, 434 vehicles/drivers were screened, and 48 Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered.
