The Santa Monica Fire Department was deployed as part of a mutual aid request to assist with the Colby Fire in Glendora on Thursday morning, spending 27 consecutive hours on the fire line.
Two SMFD Engines Companies were dispatched at 7:55 am as a strike team with other resources from Beverly Hills and Culver City.
The strike team arrived at the staging location near the fire at approximately 10 am.
The SMFD strike team’s initial assignment was to the Azusa Structure Protection Group in the southwest portion of the fire.
As conditions changed other assignments included, providing structure protection in Ridgeview Drive and Ranch Road area of homes, a water facility, and avocado orchards.
SMFD strike team spent approximately 27 consecutive hours on the fire line completing their assignment returning back to the city at approximately 2 pm Friday.
There was no interruption in emergency services to the Santa Monica community while the strike team was deployed as backfill crews were immediately called in to staff reserve apparatus.
