A car chase that reached speeds of 120 mph cut through Santa Monica on the Pacific Coast Highway on Thursday night, which ended with the dramatic arrest of a driver and two passengers in Malibu after a PIT maneuver.
According to multiple reports, the chase started at 8:35 pm in East Los Angeles where the driver of a white BMW 750i was seen speeding and weaving through traffic on the northbound Golden State Freeway near South Indiana Street.
The driver tried to elude authorities, traveling westbound on the 10 Freeway and then onto northbound PCH.
A California Highway Patrol officer performed a PIT maneuver just south of Lunita Road at about 9:15 pm on the PCH.
NBC reported that the driver, an 18-year-old UC Irvine student from China, and two passengers were taken into custody.
Several CHP officers drew their guns and surrounded the BMW after the car came to a stop.
Two officers approached the driver’s side and dragged out the teenager from behind the wheel, threw him to the ground and handcuffed him.
