After four years working to complete the requirements, Sam Youngs from Troop 67 has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Nationally, fewer than 5 percent of all Boy Scouts attain this rank.
During the past four years, he completed a minimum of 21 merit badges (he earned 25) and learning and practicing leadership skills within the troop.
In addition, he completed an extensive community service project modifying and rebuilding a main trail at the Japanese Gardens within the VA grounds which involved more than 100 volunteer hours. This project and the beautifying of the gardens at the VA will help provide a beautiful space for the veterans to enjoy and recover.
Youngs started his scouting career as a Tiger Cub in first grade at Pack 10 which meets at Will Rogers School.
He is currently serving as Senior Patrol Leader for Troop 67. He received his Eagle Scout rank award at a Court of Honor ceremony held at First United Methodist Church on Jan. 10, 2014.
Troop 67 meets on Mondays at 7:30 pm at First United Methodist Church, 1008 11th Street, Santa Monica.
