A Valentine’s Day break-up backfired on Friday, Feb. 14 for a 20-year-old Santa Monica woman who was arrested after slapping her boyfriend when he was trying to convince her to stay together with him.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to a residence in the 1900 block of Euclid Street at 10:10 pm on this day in order to investigate a report of domestic violence.
Apparently a man and a woman had been involved in a dating relationship, but on the most romantic day of the year, the woman decided to use the texting facility on her cellphone to inform the man that the relationship was now over.
This text evidently upset the man and he was compelled to visit her in order to clear things up, so to speak.
The officers learned that when the man arrived the ex-girlfriend had invited him inside, but the conversation soon escalated into an argument.
The ex-girlfriend told the officers that at one point during the argument she had slapped the man in the face.
The ex-girlfriend then said she had attempted to slap the man again but that he had restrained her.
The ex-girlfriend then said that the man had attempted to leave the residence, but her brother had shown up and had begun to yell at the man.
The ex-girlfriend had at that point texted her girlfriend asking her to call the police, which this friend had done.
Based upon the ex-girlfriend’s own testimony the officers decided that she was in fact the main cause of the assault, and so arrested her and charged her with domestic battery.
Bail was set at $20,000.
