Young Women Arrested After Stealing Sunglasses From Third Street Promenade Store:

A 17-year-old girl from Minnesota and a 22-year-old homeless woman were arrested on Saturday, Feb. 1 after stealing sunglasses from a store on the Third Street Promenade and fleeing to a nearby hotel.

Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to The Sunglass Hut at 1334 3rd Street Promenade regarding a theft at 1:30 pm on this day.

As the officers were on their way to the call, police communications advised them that two suspects had committed thefts inside the store, they had left, and they were being followed by store employees.

They were followed through the Santa Monica Place Mall and into the Men’s room of the Wyndham Hotel at 120 Colorado Ave where police arrived and detained them.

Store personnel told police that the women had each taken a pair of sunglasses and put them in a shopping bag and in a purse and left the store without paying. Both women were arrested for theft.

Bail was set at $1,000 for the 22-year-old; no bail was set for the 17-year-old.
