Santa Monica Man With Bench Warrants Arrested While Rummaging Through Recycling: Alert Police Blotter: Re-Recycling.

Bail was not granted to a 51-year-old Santa Monica man with two bench warrants on Saturday, March 1 after a police officer came across him rummaging through a recycling container while being in possession of a controlled substance.

An officer of the Santa Monica Police Department who was on routine patrol in the 2000 block of the alley of 17th Street at 8:20 pm on this day noticed this man was removing items from a city recycling container.

This is in violation of a city ordinance that prohibits the removal of such items from such containers.

The officer intervened immediately and stopped this crime from continuing. The officer then discovered that the suspect was on probation.

The officer subsequently searched the suspect and speedily located some methamphetamine accompanied by a pipe designed for the smoking of the drug upon his person.

The officer arrested this Santa Monica resident and charged him with the aforementioned city ordinance violation along with possession of a controlled substance as well as two bench warrants.
