A 19-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested on Sunday, Feb. 23 after mugging a man of his cell phone, money, and credit card at knifepoint.
An officer of the Santa Monica Police Department was approached by a man at 7:20 pm on this day who told them that he had just been the victim of a robbery in the area of Cedar Street and 11th Street at knife point by two individuals.
The victim said the pair took his cell phone, money, and a credit card.
The officer was able to obtain a description of the suspects and broadcast them to other units in the area.
One responding officer detained two suspects that matched the description of the robbery suspects in the area of Lincoln Boulevard and Strand Street.
The victim was taken to that area by the police officer and was able to positively identify the suspects as the ones that took his property.
A subsequent investigative follow-up by the officers revealed that the suspects had already used the credit card to purchase food at a nearby fast food restaurant and was used to purchase items at a nearby gas station.
The man was charged with robbery, credit card fraud, and contributing to delinquency of a minor. His bail was set at $50,000.
The other individual, a 16-year-old female from Santa Monica, was not arrested.
