Santa Monica police arrested a 45-year-old homeless man on Tuesday, March 4 for causing a scene while smoking a cigarette in Palisades Park.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a radio call at 3:30 pm on this day informing them there was a man yelling and screaming whilst walking in and out of businesses in the 1500 block of Palisades Park (between Broadway and Colorado).
The officers sped to the scene. Upon arrival the officers saw a man whom they considered to be the suspect.
The man was wearing pink bikini bottoms over a one-piece multi-colored woman’s swimsuit.
This man was also smoking a cigarette thus contravening a city ordinance banning the smoking of tobacco at that location.
The officers detained this man at which point he became argumentative and began to accuse the officers of forcibly performing sexual acts upon him.
The officers searched this man and discovered that he was bereft of, amongst other things, any form of identification.
The officers arrested this man for violating the smoking ordnance and when they arrived at the jail and identified him they also discovered that he was a sex registrant who had not properly registered as such.
This homeless man was charged with that offense as well as the aforementioned smoking offense and a pair of bench warrants.
Bail was set at $20,000.
