A 33-year-old Echo Park resident was arrested on Friday, March 21 after stealing a walking stick from a man, beating him with it, then using it to attack a parked vehicle.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a report at 11 pm on this day that there had been an assault with a deadly weapon at the 7-Eleven convenience store at 1865 Lincoln Boulevard.
On the way to this location, the officers learned a suspect who matched the description in the broadcast had been detained a block away.
Upon arrival the officers spoke with the first victim who told them he had been standing in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven when the suspect approached him.
The victim stated that he had a cart with all his belongings when the suspect harassed and cursed him.
The victim said he tried to ignore the rants of this man but that at one point the suspect had removed the victim’s walking stick from his cart and had hit him several times with it.
He added that the suspect then attacked a parked vehicle with the walking stick.
The victim then claimed that the suspect fled the scene with the victim’s walking stick.
The suspect was later identified by the victim, as well as other victims who had been involved, and so the officers arrested this man and charged him with felony vandalism and petty theft.
Bail was set at $500.
