Santa Monica Man Arrested For Breaking Into Ex-Girlfriend’s Apartment:

A 58-year-old Santa Monica man was arrested on Wednesday, April 30 after assaulting his girlfriend of two months soon after she broke up with him.

Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the 1800 block of Ninth Street at 8 pm on this day in order to investigate a report of domestic violence.

Upon arrival the officers spoke with the female victim who told them what had happened.

She said that earlier that evening she had returned home from work and had decided to visit her boyfriend who lived nearby, so that they could discuss the state of their two-month-old relationship.

She explained that during the chat they had begun to argue (that should be a clue?) and she had decided to return home.

She said that the arguing continued telephonically after she arrived home and that she had decided as a result to terminate the relationship.

The victim told the officers that she had decided to follow this up with two trips over to the now ex-boyfriend’s residence in order to collect some of her belongings, and it was on the second of these visits, she said, that the boyfriend assaulted her by allegedly pushing her over onto some patio furniture after yet another argument had ensued.

The victim had then gone to a friend’s house in order to call the police.

The officers, after noticing that the victim had some injuries to her arms that were concurrent with her story, visited the ex-boyfriend at his residence and then arrested him for assault with domestic violence.

This Santa Monica man was granted bail in the amount of $20,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of The Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
