A Beverly Hills Modern Orthodox Jewish congregation announced on Tuesday it has raised nearly $5 million from more than 100 supporters within 20 days of announcing its fundraising campaign to purchase year-round campgrounds in Malibu.
“West Coast Torah Retreat and Camp Center,” which is being formed by the leadership of Bnei Akiva of Los Angeles, had set a goal of raising $10 million in 30 days to purchase campgrounds that would be the permanent home for Moshava Malibu, its Modern Orthodox overnight summer camp, and would also serve as a year-round kosher retreat center for the West Coast Jewish community, according to congregation President Ruth Berkowitz.
“Our ability to reach the halfway point so quickly in our fundraising campaign speaks to the need for this type of space in the Jewish community,” Berkowitz said.
“Schools, synagogues, and Jewish organizations of all types will finally have access to a ‘RCC Kosher,’ fully equipped, year-round, state-of-the-art retreat venue.”
