The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has postponed a slope stabilization project along southbound Pacific Coast Highway (SR-1) between Via Escondido and Sea Vista Drive near the Malibu Cove Colony.
The project was initially scheduled to start in early July 2014 and expected to finish in August 2015.
This project has been postponed for two to three months.
Caltrans engineers and geologists have observed slope failure and roadway movement at this location. Previous storms at this location have damaged highway pavement and nearby slopes.
To stabilize the slope several micropiles and tiebacks will be installed and anchored to the bedrock beneath the highway.
Construction crews will temporarily shift highway lanes to accommodate for construction activities. Crews will work behind concrete barriers and no lanes will be reduced.
Cyclists will continue to have access through the construction area.
C.A. Rasmussen of Valencia, California was awarded this $4.13 million contract which is funded by the State Highway Operation and Protection Program.
