Reverend Eric C. Shafer will be installed as Senior Pastor of Santa Monica’s Mt Olive Lutheran Church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) on Sunday, July 13.
Bishop Guy Erwin will preside and Rabbi Joshua Stanton will preach. A luncheon for all will follow in the parish hall. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend starting at 10 am.
“I was attracted to Mt. Olive Church because of its large ‘footprint’ in the Santa Monica community and the congregation’s plan to expand its facilities and strengthen its ministries,” said Shafer, who also noted that nearly 5,000 people come through the Mt. Olive campus each week.
Bishop Erwin, who has known Shafer since Shafer’s time on the ELCA staff in Chicago, added that he is committed to placing pastors “with national church experience,” pastors “who provide excellent worship and community leadership” and that Pastor Shafer “brings that needed combination to Mt. Olive and the Santa Monica community.”
