As many as 10 cars collided in a chain-reaction crash on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Hawthorne on Friday, leaving several people injured and most of the freeway temporarily shut down, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The collision on the northbound 405 at West El Segundo Boulevard was reported about 10 p.m., CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos said.
A number of people were injured in the crash and paramedics responded to the scene, Villalobos said. The exact tally of victims who were transported to hospitals was not immediately available.
The collision shut down four of five lanes on the freeway. A SigAlert was declared by the the CHP at 10:20 and cancelled at 11:17 p.m. when the roadway was cleared, Villalobos said.
