Tragic Death Near Venice Boardwalk After Woman Cyclist Falls, Struck By Car:

A 39-year-old woman was killed when she fell from her bicycle on a street near the Venice boardwalk and was then struck by a car making a turn, police said today.

The accident occurred at South Venice Boulevard and Speedway about 5:10 p.m. Thursday, said Officer Miguel Ramirez of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division.

“Robert R. Munoz, 45, a tourist from Spain, was negotiating a left turn onto eastbound South Venice Boulevard at Speedway and collided with a pedestrian lying on the roadway at South Venice Boulevard,” Ramirez said.

“Prior to the collision, the pedestrian was seen riding westbound on Venice against the one-way sign. The pedestrian lost her balance and fell off the bicycle, colliding with the roadway,” he said.

The woman was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead at 5:43 p.m., Ramirez said. Her name was being withheld pending family notification.

Munoz was not cited or arrested. The investigation continued, Ramirez said.
