Santa Monica police arrested two men with a third suspect at-large following a police chase on Saturday, Dec. 6. Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department on patrol in the area of 17th St. and Delaware Ave. chanced upon a vehicle with three occupants run a stop sign at 3:10 am.
The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it sped away and a police chase ensued.
The suspect vehicle drove towards Pico Blvd. where the driver attempted to make a turn onto the aforementioned boulevard, but such was its velocity that it failed and crashed into a metal pole.
After this collision the driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene whilst the other two occupants remained inside.
The officers, by then had discovered that this vehicle was stolen and so arrested the occupants, a male age 18 and a resident of Santa Monica (charged with unlawful taking of a vehicle, violation of probation, and being a member of a street gang) and a male age 19 of Los Angeles who was also charged with unlawful taking of a vehicle, violation of probation, and being a member of a street gang.
Bail for both individuals was denied. The driver was described as a Hispanic male in his late teens, approximately 5’9” and of thin build.
