SMMUSD To Host Free Webinar Tuesday For Parents, Educators On Raising Achievement:

Parents and educators are invited to a free Growth Mindset Webinar this Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 pm on Raising Student Achievement by Promoting Adaptive Beliefs: Framing praise, feedback, and encouragement to promote engagement and resilience.

The moderator is Jacquie Beaubien, senior project manager of Project for Education Research That Scales (PERTS), department of psychology at Stanford University.

This talk will provide an overview of research showing that subtle differences in how we frame praise, critical feedback, and encouragement can support students in developing adaptive mindsets.

Students’ mindsets — their beliefs about learning and school — affect their motivation and resilience.

Students with adaptive mindsets think about school and their own abilities in fundamentally different ways from disengaged students: They understand why school is important; they trust their teachers and peers; and they understand that they can grow their abilities by working hard and trying new strategies when they get stuck. Students who don’t understand these things don’t try as hard, give up quickly, and are more likely to cheat.

To register in advance for the webinar, visit https://neaorg.adobeconnect.com/e577p0ccyqx/event/registration.html.

A computer with internet connection and a phone are needed to join in.

The webinar sponsor is the National Education Association. For more information on the speaker, visit https://neaorg.adobeconnect.com/e577p0ccyqx/event/speaker_info.html.
