A Thousand Oaks man, 42, was arrested at Santa Monica Pier on Tuesday, July 21, after stealing items from one of the souvenir kiosks.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the pier at 11:40 pm on an unrelated matter on this day.
Upon arrival the officers chanced upon a verbal altercation that was in progress between the manager of a kiosk on the pier (that sold small gifts) and another man.
The officers happened to overhear the manager of the kiosk telling the man to return his merchandise. The officers also heard the man respond to the kiosk manager by yelling “f**k you,” before the man began to walk away.
The officers followed this man to the parking lot located at the north side of the pier whereupon they detained him.
The officers then questioned the man before searching him and discovered various items that he had apparently stolen from the kiosk.
The manager of the kiosk requested that the man be placed under a private person’s arrest. The man was charged with theft. Bail was set at $10,000.
