The month of October is dedicated to Handbags of Hope, a charity benefiting women escaping abuse.
Santa Monica Police Department teamed up with the Santa Monica Commission on the Status of Women, Westside Domestic Violence Network, and the Jenessee Center of Los Angeles.
Throughout October on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 2 to 7 pm, Santa Monica will be collecting gently used or new handbags and toiletries for victims of domestic violence.
All donations will go to local domestic violence agencies.
To go a step further, SMPD asks that you fill the handbag with a few essential items like a toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, or a $15 gift card.
SMPD is asking people to deliver donations to Public Safety Facility at 333 Olympic Dr., Santa Monica.
