Up Front With Pat McRoskey: Water Garden Managing Director:

The Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly Biz@Sunset Mixer this coming Wednesday, Oct. 28 at the Water Garden.

It will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm at the office complex, located at 1620 26th St. #1010.

Cindy Giordano Taylor, Senior Director of Marketing – CBRE, Inc. for Water Garden, welcomes non-members and members of The Chamber to take part in the Biz@Sunset mixer on Wednesday.

Taylor has been a proud and privileged to support and participate on several committees for the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce including Organization of Women Leaders and the State of the City.

“Once again, I am excited and honored to serve as co-chair with Jenna Linnekens of Extraordinary Events for the 2016 State of the City produced by the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce,” Taylor said. “The annual State of the City is one of the most important educational and networking events, because it brings the entire Santa Monica community together to inform and enlighten those in attendance about the economic health and vibrancy of our city, as well as the ongoing and new initiatives impacting our Santa Monica community.”

Taylor said the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, led by President and CEO Laurel Rosen, partners with the City of Santa Monica at the State of the City to engage and connect business, residential, educational and cultural communities and the business improvement districts (BIDs).

“The connectivity and synergy created by the State of the City event exemplifies the very essence of what makes Santa Monica a great city at the leading edge of our nation’s creative economy,” she said.

Pat McRoskey, Managing Director – CBRE, Inc. for Water Garden, has been responsible for the oversight of a 4.5 million square foot portfolio of commercial office properties on the Westside including Water Garden in Santa Monica.

He leads the leasing and management teams for the Water Garden, which is located in the heart of Santa Monica’s Tech, Media and Entertainment Corridor.

The project is situated on 17 acres with more than 1.2 million square feet of cutting edge, creative office space in a campus-style environment.

What can you share about the Water Garden’s recent transformation?

Pat McRoskey: We are now enhancing Water Garden inside and out, artfully transforming the project into the Westside’s preferred collaborative workplace and creative playground. Originally designed by the acclaimed architectural firm, McLarand, Vasquez & Partners, Inc., a team comprising architects HLW International, Morley Construction and Trammell Crow Company (developers) and managed by CBRE, Inc. has been commissioned to transform the award winning property with a timeless, contemporary, interchangeable and multi-purpose design.

The 54,000 square foot lake water feature is being reimagined into an 11,000 square foot river walk with bridges and dock landings. The river walk will be an integral part of the renewed outdoor space, which will also incorporate extensive drought tolerant and California-native plantings as well as an imaginative hardscape.

Connectivity and activation outdoors will be enhanced with double the amount of seating, collaborative gathering areas, fire pits, meeting pavilions, amphitheater seating, a Zen wellness/fitness area, sensory gardens and a winding walking path around the perimeter of the project.

Water Garden will offer exciting outdoor programming including movies in the park, concerts in the park and wellness festivals. The property will be the largest private outdoor venue for special events and meetings.

What sustainability efforts has the Water Garden implemented?

Water Garden is a LEED Gold, Energy Star rated project committed to sustainable innovation and operation. We are continuing to incorporate the most advanced building technologies and state-of-the-art sustainable design into the daily management and operation of the property and the project transformation. The scale of Water Garden means everything we do has the potential to have a significant and lasting impact on our shared environment. Ownership and management recognize the obligation that comes with this responsibility and continues to invest in meaningful solutions to reduce the property’s carbon footprint and conserve precious, limited natural resources.

By reimagining the lake into a river walk, we have reduced the capacity of the main water feature from 611,000 gallons to 39,000 gallons of water. This significant reduction in water usage combined with comprehensive sustainable, drought tolerant landscaping; the reduction in turf grass by 84 percent; and significantly reduced evaporation, irrigation and runoff will enable Water Garden to save more than 2.5 million gallons of water annually.

In partnership with the City of Santa Monica, the original lake water feature was drained and diverted directly to the City’s Santa Monica Urban Runoff Recycling Facility (SMURRF). At SMURRF, the much-needed reclaimed water was treated and recycled for reuse in landscape irrigation at projects throughout the Santa Monica community.
