Santa Monica Little League (SMLL) held their opening day Saturday to kick off the baseball season.
"We had nearly 600 kids out there – having fun, playing games, jumping in the bounce house, testing their baseball skills and most importantly – meeting their teammates and getting their uniforms for the season," said Mark Kapczynski.
Kate Bransfield from SantaMonicaListings.com threw out the first pitch, and the Orthopedic Institute for Children came out in full force – leading the morning stretch and giving a safety chat before the kids/teams headed out for the first games of the season.
"Rosti Tuscan Kitchen sponsored SMLL’s Home Run derby – and provided the largest trophy that I have ever held," Kapczynski said, with the child winning the trophy also getting free pizza for a year from Rosti.
"The folks from KIND snacks also announced that they are providing six INDness awards at the end of our season for the player who best demonstrates kindness and teamwork throughout the season – one award for each of our 6 divisions," Kpaczynski added.
"We are excited to help so many kids have the opportunity to play baseball – as no kid is ever turned away. We are 100% inclusive by providing scholarships to those families who need a helping hand," he said.
