Our Coastal Zone Pier

County lifeguards and divers ended their search yesterday near the Santa Monica Pier for a swimmer reported to be in the water and who was last seen clinging to a pylon near the pier.

About 3:05 a.m. Sunday, people walked up to a Santa Monica harbor patrol station and reported that someone was in the water, according to Capt. Brian Jordan of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The swimmer was described as a male in black clothing, Jordan said.

The effort to locate the swimmer ended at 11:30 a.m., after six different searches, in "different variations," he said.
