Making good on a promise to give Santa Monica shoppers “time-saving help” in taking care of their grocery needs, the new Gelson’s will build a drive-through salad bazooka that blows a varied mix of lettuce, greens, and kale from a huge canon aimed at the open passenger side window of customer’s vehicles.
Gelson produce manager Leaf Erickson dismissed questions concerning shopper safety, stating that the new service’s high-tech machinery had been thoroughly tested with crash dummies and laboratory mice in very small cars. “You just fill-up your car interior with salad, making repeat visits during the week for greens a thing of the past” stated Erickson, who noted that he had used the system himself and suffered only slight abrasions and something called “a radish blister” during his experience with the bazooka.
