The Residocracy-backed Land Use Voter Empowerment (LUVE) initiative is being bundled up and prepared to file with the City of Santa Monica, following a city-wide grassroots campaign that saw 10,000 signatures garnered within the allotted time frame.
An elated call to The Mirror today lunchtime from Residocracy’s Tricia Crane and Armen Melkonians revealed the milestone, one that ensures the initiative a place on the Ballot come November 8.
"We did it!," Crane exclaimed. "We have 10,000 signatures…and we LUVE Santa Monica!"
Both Crane and Melkonians expressed their gratitude to residents for getting behind the initiative that advocates for voter control when it comes to development.
"It just goes to show that Santa Monicans love Santa Monica," Melkonians said.
According to proponents, LUVE’s main features call for: stopping the over-development of Santa Monica, giving voters the right to decide how much development is right for Santa Monicam, requiring voter approval for Major Development Review Permits, and requiring voter approval for major changes in the City’s Land Use Policy Documents.
The initiative needed 6,500 signatures to qualify LUVE for the November 2016 ballot.
