The systematic replacement of street signs is in all city councils’ budgets. According to Santa Monica City, neigborhood signs in Santa Monica are replaced based on the age and color of the sign.
“The City is broken up into 10 zones for our general maintenance program,” the City explained to The Mirror. During an inspection of the zone that the Ocean Park Boulevard and 14th (pictured above) falls under, “this sign was determined to need replacement.”
“Replacement is based on the age and color of the sign,” the City continued. “This sign was last replaced in 2010 and experienced some fading.”
This one sign cost $107 to replace, the City’s sign replacement budget costs residents $90,000 annually.
