Annual Fundraising Salon – An Invitation from the Conservancy
The bungalow craze swept the L.A. region in the early 20th century, in reaction against the extravagances of late Victorian architecture. In contrast, Craftsman bungalows favored simplicity, directness, and natural materials. Typical Craftsman bungalows featured open floor plans with the front entrance leading immediately to the main living spaces. Built-in bookcases and buffets allowed for more spacious interiors, usually adorned with wood paneling, stained dark to bring out the natural wood grain. The tiled fireplace was a centerpiece of the living room.
Craftsman homes ranged from relatively inexpensive kit houses, assembled on-site, to the magnificent mansions created by Charles and Henry Greene in Pasadena.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience this architectural treasure, meticulously restored and decorated by the owners. Tickets are $150 for Conservancy members; $175 for the public; and complimentary for new or upgrading Leadership Circle members.
