Introducing Route 45
By Keldine Hull
Santa Monica residents and visitors now have even more options to get around town. On July 1, Big Blue Bus (BBB) introduced Route 45, connecting tourist attractions in the city during the summer months. Route 45 serves Santa Monica Pier and Beach, Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica Place and the Downtown Santa Monica Station Expo Line.
With 8 convenient stops, the new route takes passengers along Ocean Avenue to Santa Monica Boulevard, 5th Street to Colorado Avenue, and Colorado Avenue back to Ocean Avenue. Route 45 will be available daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., every 12 to 15 minutes, until September 2, 2019. For riders using a Transit Access Pass (TAP) card, the fare is $1.10 and $1.25 if paying with cash. Transfers within 2.5 hours will be 50 cents.
According Director of Traffic Services for BBB Ed King, “This summer, we plan to continue to improve our services and customer experience, easy connections, major destinations, Santa Monica, the options to visit, eat and shop. Route 45 is designed to be useful, ecological, and economical for residents, tourists and visitors in downtown Santa Monica.” King added, “We would like everyone in our community to try Route 45, so the first trip will be on us.”
