A property owner shot a potential burglar in Santa Monica’s North of Montana neighborhood Thursday night.

The incident occurred around 8:10 p.m. Thursday night on the 400 block of 10th Street when the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) responded to a burglary in progress and subsequent shooting.

According to the SMPD upon arrival, officers located a male white subject in his 30s down to the rear of the property with a gunshot wound to the neck. That individual was immediately transported to the UCLA-Westwood Hospital in critical condition.

“Officers were also in contact with two males who are associated with the property where the shooting took place. Officers were notified by one of the men that he had shot the subject on their property,” the SMPD said.

This story is still developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
