Get Some Fresh Air with the Metro Bike Share System

After sweating it all out inside your homes, what better way to unwind than getting some fresh air on a bike?

With that, LA Metro’s bike share system is once again paddling on the Westside.

Last Thursday, Metro and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) relaunched the Metro Bike Share System on the Westside, just in time for the Bike Month Celebration in May!

During the announcement, LADOT revealed that the agency has reinstalled at least 54 bike share stations and plans to put up an additional 13 bike share stations in the Westside communities, encompassing Santa Monica, Venice, Mar Vista, Palms, Playa Vista, and its surrounding communities. Furthermore, riders from Downtown LA to the Westside can also enjoy using electric bikes as they are now made available.

LADOT temporarily suspended the bike-share program last September as Metro removed all “Smart Bikes” from its Westside service offerings. Officials removed the smart bikes because they contained geofencing limitations that incurred additional service fees outside the Westside area.

Now, as bike share is once again available, Metro offers its customers far greater choices for their mobility. Moreover, Bike Share provides better, faster access to and from different stations, significantly reducing auto trips and promoting local destinations.

Presently, there are 1,500 Metro Bikes and 209 stations across the Westside, Central and Downtown LA, and North Hollywood areas!

As Metro celebrates Bike Month in May 2021 to recognize bicycling as a sustainable and healthy mode of transportation, the relaunching of the Bike Share program is just in time to celebrate Bike Week from May 17 to May 23 2021, and Bike Anywhere Day on Friday, May 21.

Staying healthy does not have to be expensive! With all the resources available at hand, you can start establishing your fitness routine without having to spend as much. Even more interesting, you have the choice to do so in the comfort of your home!
