Amazon Bringing 1,000 News Jobs to Santa Monica

Company signs a lease for a 200,000-square-foot space at the Water Garden

Amazon.com intends to create 2,500 technical and corporate jobs in the Southern California area soon as reported by ABC 7.com. 1000 of those jobs will be in Santa Monica with more than 800 of the jobs will be located in Irvine which the company announced on May 3. 

Holly Sullivan, Amazon’s vice president of worldwide economic development said,  “They’re a fantastic opportunity for Californians of all backgrounds to join Amazon and build a successful career.” and that the jobs”include roles building cloud infrastructure, improving the Alexa experience, and designing cutting-edge video games,”

Amazon has signed a lease for a 200,000-square-foot space at the Water Garden in Santa Monica with J.P. Morgan Asset Management at 1620 26th Street. Amazon expects to start bringing employees to work onsite in mid-2023.

At the future Irvine site, Amazon signed a lease with Irvine Company that is for 116,000 square feet of office space at Spectrum Terrace which is located at 17300 Laguna Canyon Road. Amazon plans to start occupying the building in late 2022.

Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan said, “Economic development, especially job creation, is critical to our city’s growth. Amazon’s expansion of its tech hub in Irvine is a testament to the fantastic talent pool and high quality of life our city has to offer. Investments like Amazon’s act as a vote of confidence for Irvine and these 800 new corporate and tech roles will continue to unlock economic opportunity for our community.”

Additionally, Amazon has made the announcement that they will hire more than 700 workers in San Diego as well. The jobs include roles as software development engineers, games designers, and user experience designers. There will also be a need for human resource support roles, finance, IT and other office roles as well.
