Former Hotel Shangri-la renamed The Beacon hotel after management changes hands
By Dolores Quintana
In Santa Monica, it is time to bid farewell to The Hotel Shangri-La, a mainstay of nearly forty years as reported by What Now Los Angeles. Sonder Hospitality Group and Boulevard Nightlife Group have moved in as the new management and with that comes a name change. The hotel’s name will now be The Beacon but it still has the same Old Hollywood roots with the art deco style that the hotel is known for. Sonder seems to be aiming more for a long-term stay luxury hotel based on the website’s description. The description adds, “Each room features modern amenities with a classic touch — soaking bathtubs for winding down and a Roku TV to binge your latest series. Downstairs, the fitness room has free weights and treadmills.” Potential customers are advised that for stays less than 90 days, they should call the hotel to book rooms.
What is to become of the space’s rooftop bar, ONYX, is not yet known. However, also according to What Now LA, Ocean Restaurant Group, LLC has filed for a liquor license at the site. We have requested more information about the plans for the restaurant and bar at The Beacon from The Boulevard Night Group (BNG), a subsidiary of Ocean Restaurant Group, which oversees BNG. BNG is the group that runs the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
